Hello and welcome!
As a former college professor, I found that the major barrier to students obtaining above average grades on papers was below average writing skills. I was consistently troubled by the inability of many of them to translate their thoughts into clear, coherent written form. Unfortunately, their failure to express themselves concisely was usually reflected in their grades.
Effective writing is an art form. It can narrate, explain, teach, persuade, and entertain. Aside from speech, it is the only tool at your disposal for providing someone else direct access to the exact thoughts, ideas, and processes that take place in your mind. In short, your writing is the critical door that stands between your thoughts and your reader's accurate understanding of those thoughts.
To get to that door, you must ensure that your reader does not have to trudge through a marsh of frustrating grammatical and punctuation errors, poorly constructed or run-on sentences, and faulty paragraphing. You must also avoid the confusion caused by presenting your points and ideas in illogical progression. Due to their lack of clarity and coherence, papers like this very seldom warrant an above average grade.
